5 stars (out of 5)
If Christchurch-based LA (Lauren) Mitchell's 2007 album Debut snuck under your radar, don't let this one do the same.
Live At The Matterhorn is as good as it gets for those with a penchant for smooth jazz and soulful R&B.
The setting stamps a gold seal of authenticity on the recording. There's an added thrill to hearing Mitchell's strong and sandy pipes in all their unadulterated glory.
Fronting the Nativa Band (with three top-notch backing vocalists), she draws power from the Fender Rhodes at her fingertips as she works her way through a largely original set.
